Sometimes a project gets funding to experiment and explore an area that isn’t full formed, and this is fantastic – funders should have the confidence and bravery to fund something that isn’t yet fully scoped out far more often, especially if we genuinely want to figure out how to do things differently. You can’t predict something when it has never been done before!
And also, staring with a relatively blank page, along with a deadline, and a goal to collaborate and engage with a diverse set of stakeholders to run pilots and to learn, but an openness to doing it can also be incredibly daunting.
One of things I’ve learned is that working in pairs or teams to keep momentum and to support each other to keep going despite the insecurity of whether what we are doing will work is vital, and more importantly makes this kind of change work actually FUN.
So I’m delighted to be able to join forces with Jen from Feel Good do Good and Tris and Penny from NPC to drive forward a pilot programme to explore the barriers to organisations working in the youth sector to being open, and collaboratively designing pilots with a group of representatives of hte sector to test how we might break some of those barriers down and have a more open sector and all the benefits we believe this will bring.
The project is just forming, so I will come back with more once we have lots of goodies to share.
